I'm not quite sure I understand.....
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against this woman or her religion. But I just don't get it sometimes.

what's at issue here? the dichotomy of differing religions.
for many in western countries, the concept of women having to cover themselves entirely is both foreign and reprehensible. but to hundreds of millions of muslims, it is as normal as pizza.
so, as striking and even unethical as it may seem, we should have the utmost respect for such practices and hope that in Islamic society women will forge equality for themselves,.
in Islam, wearing a scarf and covering is seen as being moderate--a concept that is rather misunderstood. it is not about "equality in Islamic society," it is about having respect for your own body and not feeling the need to flaunt it. it is about being valued for more than your body, your hair, or your sensuality. i think it's wonderful that she can still compete while she follows what she feels is appropriate by her religion.
